This reference G.1840 from the 1980s is the perfect example of a Gerald Genta watch. It is immediately recognizable for its quintessential Genta aesthetics. The 18k gold case features the iconic octagonal design forever associated with the maestro, this time in an elegant 34 mm dressy execution with a stepped yellow and white gold bezel and central lugs that connect to the classic alligator leather strap. The black dial contains a beautiful engraved pattern that is reminiscent of the crazing pattern that can occur on vintage acrylic crystals as well as elegant applied 18k yellow gold Roman numerals and baton hands. As we've come to expect from Genta, the G.1840 also features a bevy of complications, which are displayed on four sub-registers. The top register at the 12 o'clock position features a romantic moonphase complication with a beautiful lapis lazuli inlay. Meanwhile, German language day, date, and month indicators are incorporated in the remaining three registers. And get this: it actually is a perpetual calendar! Even though there is no leap year indication, the Frederic Piguet cal. 71 has an addition of an ETA module to create this interesting movement.
